Read Think Do I'm Thankful
There’s a fully-feathered turkey on the flip side of each board.

Thanksgiving is rapidly approaching and it’s the perfect time to take stock of what you’re thankful for. This month, at the entrance to our Children’s Department, we have a space where kids can tell us what they’re thankful for. Our librarian Rachel printed images of turkeys, which are laminated and taped up to the boards. Kids fill out a paper feather, which we then add to a turkey. Easy peasy! So far we’ve filled three turkeys and are working on number four. The kids love it; we’ve gone through hundreds of feathers already. Soon we’re going to run out of space on the turkeys; the plan is to have kids then write on paper maple leaves that will get taped to the windows right behind where I was standing to take the picture. It will be a fall wonderland!

We cut out the feathers using a die-cut machine. (It’s actually a leaf die, but no one else has to know that.)

It’s really fun to see what kids are thankful for.

Many kids write that they're thankful for their families, but this is a particularly eloquent sentiment.

Yes! I have a lot in common with this kid. I also love Harry Potter. And life.
